Financial literacy in times of crisis more important than ever
This year, European Money Week combines financial literacy with cybersecurity and sustainability in a diverse programme.
The Liechtenstein Bankers Association (LBA) has been committed for a long time already to improving the financial literacy of young and old. In this context, we also support the European Money Week (#EMW) every year, which will start again on 21 March. It is an initiative inspired by the OECD's Global Money Week and involves young people in more than 35 European countries.
This year's theme is "Supercharge Financial Skills". Recent figures prove the necessity of such initiatives. After all, around half of all Europeans have not enough skills to make informed decisions about money. Women, young people, elderly people and low-income groups are disproportionately affected. We want to provide a remedy for this. Because a resilient and inclusive society needs good financial literacy. This has just recently been demonstrated in the pandemic and will remain important in the ongoing terrible war in Ukraine.
This year, the campaign has set itself high goals and, in addition to financial literacy in the narrower sense, also wants to make a connection to cybersecurity or sustainability.
Three events are at the centre of this year's activities of the LBA. For example, the final of the European Money Quiz for Liechtenstein will take place on 23 March. For children aged four to eight, the picture book "Money for Sale" developed last year will be used at two locations. On 22 March in the Iramali Kindergarten in Balzers and on 24 March in the Primery school in Schaan.
