Investing in the modern forest and timber construction industry
A White Paper on sustainability, value creation, investment profiles and financial products for a systematic and climate-relevant investment in timber.
Listed timber equity investments are leaving their niche status and require further attention with regards to their technological, economic, financial and sustainability characteristics.
The White Paper resulted from a collaboration between the Zurich University of Applied Sciences and Timber Finance. The study was co-funded by Built by Nature and the Migros Pioneers Fund and supported by the Liechtenstein Bankers Association.
It reviews and builds on the academic literature and addresses the climate benefits of timber with regards to, carbon sequestration, carbon storage and product substitution. The economic, financial and sustainability characteristics of various timber related investment products are analyzed and provide a framework for evaluating timber investment opportunities.
It is our conviction as the Liechtenstein Bankers Association that the importance of the timber industry as a carbon sink is becoming increasingly significant in the financial sector. Sustainable forestry and construction contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and protecting biodiversity. Strategic investments in the timber industry can support and promote the preservation of forests and their role as carbon sinks.
