Realschule Schaan goes Brussels
Financial literacy is important for young and old. This year, Realschule Schaan honourably represented Liechtenstein at the European Money Quiz in Brussels.
For more than ten years, the Liechtenstein Bankers Association has been supporting the ability of young and old to recognise financial contexts. This financial literacy should be learned as early as possible, because one in five young people between the ages of 12 and 18 already has debts.
An important measure to improve financial literacy at the European level is the European Money Quiz, which is part of the annual European Money Week.
This year, young people between the ages of 13 and 15 from 28 European countries took part. A special feature this year was that Ukraine joined our quiz for the first time. In the respective national finals, a total of more than 37,000 students tested their financial competence. The European final took place in Brussels on May 16. Liechtenstein was represented by Leonie and Fabian from class 3a of the Realschule Schaan, who had won the national final among nine classes in Liechtenstein in March.
In an exciting accompanying programme, the finalists were able to visit the Atomium and experience the «opening bell» of Euronext live.
The winner was Greece. We congratulate them and vow to take revenge next year. But just like the Olympics, participation is more important. And just like at school, you learn for life at such events. We are convinced that Leonie and Fabian will come home with many great memories and new colleagues from all over Europe and will rave about this experience for a long time to come.
