European Money Quiz in Liechtenstein
Last Friday, secondary school class 4a of the Realschule Eschen won the Liechtenstein competition for the European Money Quiz (EMQ) in an online live quiz against other school classes. But the journey is far from over. Each national winning team will send a delegation of two students together with a class teacher to the EMQ finals in Brussels, where they will compete for the main prize on 7 May 2019: 3,000 euros in prize money for the entire school class. At the same time, the participants get to know young people from all over Europe and gain new impressions and friends.
The EMQ is part of the European Money Week (EMW). It was held for the first time in 2018 and had an immediate impact. The EMQ addressed about 41,000 young people throughout Europe, who were then able to strengthen their financial skills. The EMW is an initiative of the European Banking Federation (EBF). It promotes financial literacy and has had a resounding success throughout Europe. Finances are a skill to be learned. The playful approach of a quiz and the competition against other school classes and countries motivate the young people even more.
Even apart from the EMW, the Liechtenstein Bankers Association (LBA) and its member banks have long pursued numerous initiatives to strengthen sustainable financial literacy among children and young people. Especially when reaching adulthood, young people are faced with many financial decisions. For this reason, the focus is on the graduating classes of secondary schools. The half-day project "Banking 4 you – debt prevention" was developed for this target group. Each year, this initiative trains the financial skills of more than 300 young people.
